Review

Story

ganeshGanesh (Ram) is an orphan who always pitches in to help needy people. In one such strange situation, he is forced to act with Divya (Kajal Agarwal) that he loves her. But later on, she comes to know that he is loving her to fulfill some other ambition and his love is an act of fabrication. By then, Ganesh genuinely falls in love with her. The rest of the story is all about how he convinces her about his true love.

Artists Performance

ganeshThe 26 kids who acted in this movie are wonderful. They performed naturally and added fun and purity to the scenes they are involved with. Ram is pretty good as Ganesh in this movie. He has shown lots of maturity in performance and dialogue modulation towards the end of the movie. His dances in Ganesa song are interesting. Kajal Agarwal is nice. Brahmanandam's comedy, though routine gives relief. Poonam Kaur is adequate as the friend of heroine. Asish Vidyardhi alright as a comedy villain. Rohini Hattangadi did a brief role..

Technical departments

ganeshStory - screenplay - directon: Story of the movie is wafer thin. A story like these should be narrated with tight screenplay and gripping emotions. The debutant director couldn't come up with a gripping screenplay to narrate the story in an interesting manner. However, the kids backdrop has helped in keeping the movie going. The episodes involving kids are a sheer delight to watch. The direction should have been better. Films like these will be interesting only if director projects the love between lead couple in a tender yet interesting way. Though it may look different on paper, the director couldn't translate those sweet nothings onto the screen in a convincing way. I didn't expect a couple of insensible scenes (hero cutting his wrist to prove his love and kids being ill-treated in climax) from a production house of Sravanthi.

ganeshOther departments: Micky J Meyer's songs definitely sound good on stereo. However, they are not captured efficiently onto the screen. The chalo song featuring kids is picturized well. The 'rajkumrai' song which sounds fabulous is misplaced in the movie. Background score is not good. The dialogues written by Abburi Ravi in key scenes leading to climax are good. Cinematography should have been better. Fights by Peter Heins are adequate. Editing should have been crisper as there is lots of lag in the second half of the movie.

ganeshAnalysis: First half of the movie is adequate. The second half lacks pace. The climax should have been shot interestingly. Plus points of the movie are Ram and kids. Negative points are screenplay and slow second half. Stories of this type needs tremendous creativity and presentation ability from director. The runtime of the movie is around 3 hours and it seriously needs some trimming in the second half. The lifeline of the movie is the kids episode. Ganesh is not the movie for morning show crowds. It is a clean movie aimed at family crowds. The fate of the movie will solely depend on how family crowds receive it

What’s it about!

A close friend of Ganesh (Ram) gets in a problem - that his father wants him to get married to his niece. As his friend is already in love with another girl and he could not tell this to his father at this juncture, Ganesh comes forward to help him. Ganesh hatches a plan to make his friend’s niece Divya (Kajal) fall in love with him so that his friend would be happily marry his girlfriend. Ganesh takes rent a floor above Divya’s apartment and woes her with his charming ways. She falls in love with him and they soon exchange rings. But one day, Divya comes to know that Ganesh is pretending to be in her love just to help his friend. Heartbroken Divya starts hating Ganesh who tries to convince that he has really fallen in love but in vain. The rest of the film is all about Ganesh making her realize his true love.

Analysis

After stupendous success of Ready and above average Maska, Ram has emerged as hottest hero. WithReady, he won the hearts of youth and kids, and with Maska, he established himself as a mass hero too. Hence, to sustain this image, he has chosen Ganesh, a very simple script narrated by newcomer Saravanan. Ram’s superman histrionics and children playing major role in the narration seems to be an attempt to make Ram dear to kids in Andhra. The film’s first half is good but it misses the track in the second half. Moreover, the run time is too excessive to this kind of simple film. Some comedy here and there, excellent cinematography and first half are its strengths. Rest is pretty ordinary.

Performances

Ram, known for his high energy levels, has played a lover boy role. He has done neat job in that and also tried to win the hearts of kids with his superman antics. He has not indulged in much action scenes (as there are hardly any fights) and dances are also okay. Kajal has looked good in songs and some romantic scenes. Chemistry between the lead stars is fine. Brahmanandam as Yadagiri has tried to provide some entertainment. Poonam Kaur in a special apperance adds glam quotient to the moive. All the kids who acted are cute. Rest of the cast is okay . Ashishi Vidyardhi's role is poorly etched.

On technical front, Hari Anumolu walks away with top honours. His cinematography is top class. Music byMickey J Meyer is bad. Except the song, written by Sirivennela, none of the songs are humble. The less said about his background score is the better. Although the film is shot mostly at one or two places but the production values of Sravanthi Movies are topnotch. Abburi Ravi impresses with one or two good dialogues.

Bottom-line!

Ganesh is just an okay film. First half has is decent with some good entertainment but second half misses the track. Should have been trimmed to make it tighter in the second half (2.50 hrs runtime). On the whole, it is strictly average fare.

Rating: 3/5

Kajal and RamGanesh goes around helping people and playing the savior. His friend's boyfriend claims to be unable to marry her because of a promise his father made to his late grandfather-to get him married to his cousin. Ganesh decides to pretend to be in love with this cousin and get her to fall for him to free his friends of familial obligations. He rents an apartment opposite hers and befriends the bunch of kids in the flats everyone is terrorized by. They mistake him for Superman and hilarity ensures as he tries to make Divya fall for him. After she does fall for him, he really falls in love with her but she finds out he was pretending all the while and the rest of the story is about how he tries to win her back.

The first half of Ganesh is good, with not a dull moment in sight. The main characters are established, and the involvement of a bunch of energetic kids makes for a slightly different storyline than regular and therein lies its appeal. But the second half is not as well worked upon, by the looks of it. There is only one incident that is interesting, but otherwise, its really predictable and lags towards the end.

Ganesh introducing himself as 'Ganesh's friend' to Divya and claiming Ganesh loves her to get her attention and then later after their lovers' spat asking for 5 minutes to explain himself and taking those minutes in installments are entertaining sequences. The kids claiming that Ganesh is superman also makes for some fun events.

The villain a.k.a. moneylender Ashish Vidyarthi has little to do, and the character seems to be written for the sole purpose of involving a few fights and even some comic scenes between himself and a debtor i.e., Brahmanandam as 'Yadagiri, the Don'. One or two grin-inducing moments happen courtesy bad moneylender getting bashed up senseless by Ganesh, seeing which the only skeptic is also convinced that he really is superman.

Ram and KajalBut really, once we get to the climax, we think now something's about to happen, but the way the movie is narrated and ends, one wonders whether it was really necessary to keep the bad guy in it. A lovers' spat can be resolved in many ways, and this way was not convincing or spontaneous.

Music by Mickey J. Meyer is not up to his usual standards of freshness. The background is decent. But the songs crop up all of a sudden at the wrong moments and without an adequate gap either. This jars the flow of the narrative.

It's the kind of family entertainer that the producer is known for, and has all the elements to make it a good watch. Sadly the second half disappoints, so overall Ganesh..Just Ganesh is just okay

‘Ganesh- Just Ganesh’ Review: Just Ok

Film: Ganesh-Just Ganesh
Rating: 3/5

Cast: Ram, Kajal, Sameer, Kasi Viswanath, Ashish Vidyarthi, Poonam Kour, Rohini Attangadi etc
Dialogues: Abburi Ravi
Camera: Hari
Music: Mickey J Mayer
Lyrics: Sirivennela, Rama Jogayya Sastry
Art: Peketi Ranga
Action: Peter Heins
Editing: Sreekar Prasad
Producer: Sarvanthi Ravi Kishore
Story, Screenplay, Direction: Saravanan
Released On: 25th Sep 2009

This is the movie that’s released without any hype. It hasn’t been in big discussion till its release. Hence the expectations weren’t high on this. Let us see how far it entertained audiences.

Story:
Ganesh (Ram) is a young man who knows nothing but helping others. His friend loves a girl but he fears to let that known to his father (Kasi Viswanath) . The idea of the father is to get his son married to his niece Divya (Kajal).

Hence Ganesh plans to make Divya fall in his love so that line will be clear for his friend to marry his love interest. He implements the plan by becoming a tenant to Divya in Express Towers Apartments, Kondapur. The apartment is famous for mischievous children and their playful acts. But how Ganesh becomes close to them and how he sees success in his plan? That has to be watched on screen.

Meanwhile Mahadev (Ashish Vidyarthi), a hooligan disturbs the society with his goondaagiri. A comedy don Yadagiri (Brahmanandam) also presents parallel to him. How Ganesh settles these accounts forms the action and mass comedy part.

Performances:
Ram:
He is at his best by all means. First to say is about his dances. He has improved a lot and his dances are with full of grace. His timing in dialogue delivery and energy levels in performance are also good. He proves to be best bet for family entertainers.

Kajal: She has caught the attention with beautiful screen presence once again and scored well with performance as well.

Child Artistes: The biggest asset for this film is child artistes. Everyone has delivered the best output and entertained audiences. Director could have banked on these tiny talents and extend scenes on them for better narration of the whole story. The boy who acted in role of Nani is quite interesting. His exam hall scene and getting 72% marks entertained audiences. The stout boy in the group who tests the protagonist whether he is really a Super Man is humorous. Another boy wearing spectacles also made his presence felt. Other child artistes also acted up to the mark.

Ashish Vidyarthi is adequate in his negative role but there is no big punch for that. Poonam Kour acted as side kick for hero and heroine although she looked more graceful than heroine in some frames. Sameer is ok in his character as brother to Kajal. Rohini Attangadi appeared in a guest role.

The technical departments are ok. Music is well placed by Mickey J Mayer although not on par with his previous flicks. The song ‘Tanemando…’ is almost similar to ‘Nijamga Nenenaa’ from KBL. Other songs are just above average. Cinematography deserves good mention and the costumes department also worked well. Director did well but failed to focus on screenplay. The story is highly predictable till the climax without any twists and turns. And he failed to spruce up the second half adequately. It became elastic.

Highlights:

  • Child Artistes
  • Ram’s Dances
  • Costumes
  • Music

Disappointments:

  • No interesting story line
  • Weak second half
  • Lengthy narration in second half
  • Lack of sufficient humor in second half
  • Flat and predictable narration

Missed Opportunities:

  • The scenes of dog that stops chasing once seeing a hug should have extended with more scenes for better laughs
  • The children walking into Divya’s house to negotiate marriage terms with her brother (Sameer) should have made a parody out of similar scene in old movie ‘Seetakoka Chiluka’ for humor.

Analysis:
The first half is better but second half is elastic. The movie promises huge entertainment till the interval and brings hopes that second half will be on par. But the expectations have come down due to length. It is true that length marred the strength of the movie. And the children episode with more entertainment could have added right value.

It is crucial for any film to possess with strong second half when compared to first half. But here it has become inversed. The audiences those stand up from their seats after the completion of the movie feel that first half is better. That drops the graph on a whole.

To sum up, it’s a film that can be watched by all family members at least for children episode. But at the same time one needs to carry lot of stamina to bear with lengthy second half that runs with no excitement.
